KENALI TOKOH KAUNSELING : Profesor Dr. Othman Mohamed
Profesor Dr. Othman Mohamed ialah seorang Profesor dalam bidang Bimbingan dan Kaunseling di Universiti Putra Malaysia. Kepakarannya adalah dalam bidang Penyeliaan Kaunselor dan Kaunseling kerjaya. Beliau telah menerbitkan lebih 100 penulisan akademik di dalam pelbagai penerbitan dan aktif dalam memperkasakan penjelajahan keilmuan kaunseling melalui penyelidikan. Beliau juga terlibat dalam perundingan dengan Kementerian Pelajaran, Malaysia; Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia; dan dengan Kementerian Pendidikan, Negara Brunei Darussalam. Beliau juga bersama dengan rakan sejawat terlibat dengan penyelidikan di Negara Brunei Darussalam; Lesotho, Afrika; United Kingdom dan di Amerika Syarikat.
Profesor Othman telah memenangi beberapa anugerah seperti Anugerah Penulisan Karya Asli Terbaik bagi Buku untuk Sains Sosial dan Kemanusiaan tahun 2002. Buku tersebut bertajuk Prinsip Psikoterapi dan Pengurusan dalam Kaunseling dan buku Penulisan Tesis dalam bidang Sains Sosial Terapan diterbitkan oleh Penerbit Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Profesor Othman juga sebagai seorang pencipta permainan kerjaya memenangi Pingat Gangsa untuk rekaciptanya: The Matrix Jobs Game di Pertandingan Inventions/Innovations pada tahun 2002 anjuran Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Alam Sekitar. Kini beliau sedang memperkasakan permainan kerjaya The Career Globe Challenge.
Profesor Othman Mohamed ialah seorang Kaunselor Berdaftar dan mempunyai Perakuan Amalan Kaunselor. Beliau juga merupakan ahli seumur hidup dan ahli pengasas Persatuan kaunselor Malaysia (PERKAMA). Semasa ini beliau ialah wakil bagi International Association for Vocational and Educational Guidance yang bernaungan di bawah UNESCO.
Bagi menghargai sumbangannya dalam bidang penyelidikan dan penerbitan kaunseling di arena antarabangsa, beliau dianugerahkan the ACES International Award for the Contributions in Counselling at the International Field pada tahun 1999.
Professor Dr. Othman Mohamed is a Professor of Guidance and Counselling at Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is an expert in Counsellor Supervision and Career Counselling. He has produced over 100 academic writings in various publications and is active in enhancing new frontiers of counselling knowledge through research. Also, he has done consultancy work with the Ministry of Education, Malaysia; the Ministry of Health, Malaysia and with the Ministry of Education, Negara Brunei Darussalam. He has also conducted research with collegues in Negara Brunei Darussalam; Lesotho, Africa; the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
He has also won numerous awards including the Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Award for the Best Original Creative Book for the Social Sciences and Humanities category in 2002. The book is entitled "Principles of Psychotherapy and Management in Counselling" and "Thesis Writing in the Area of Applied Social Sciences" published by the Universiti Putra Malaysia Press.Professor Othman is also an inventor of career games winning the BRONZE MEDAL for an invention on a career game: THE MATRIX JOBS GAME at the November 2002 INVENTIONS/INNOVATION COMPETITION held in Kuala Lumpur by The Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment of Malaysia. Currently, he is enhancing the development of a career game The Career Globe Challenge.
Professor Othman Mohamed is a registered certified counsellor practitioner. He is also a life and founder member of the Persatuan Kaunseling Malaysia (PERKAMA), a professional counselling association in Malaysia.
Professor Othman is currently the Malaysian representative for the International Association for Vocational and Educational Guidance affiliated with UNESCO.
For his contributions in research and publication at the international arena, he was recognized on April 1999 by the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES -- affiliate of the American Counseling Association) the ACES International Award for Contributions in Counselling at the International Field.
